Each of these illustrations is a portrait of an oil platform located off the coast of California. The platforms are named after women, in the tradition of sea-going vessels, a convention that has continued into the petroleum age. Here are just a few of the pieces executed on paper made from sea-soaked jeans and U.S. currency.
